Featured Student

Our students are the future of dog training and the heart of our school.

That’s why we regularly take a moment to recognize one of our top aspiring trainers here.

Our Featured Student this month is Ashley Hill of West New York, New Jersey. At the time of this posting, Ashley is almost a Basics Pro graduate, and we’re very proud of her!

A Word from Ashley

My Favorite Recent Study Topics:

My favorite topics of study have been physiology (especially the interaction of the body and mind in creating behavior), proper motivation and reinforcement of behavior, and different strategies and approaches to changing problematic behavior.

My Favorite Recent Hands-On Activity:

My favorite hands-on activity was observing dog greetings and collecting data on their length, outcome, and the behavior of the dogs involved. I think the greeting, and how owners interpret their dog’s behavior during, as well as the ultimate outcome of greetings, is perhaps a primary input into how many owners judge the friendliness of their dogs. I feel like understanding and being able to help make this important interaction a positive experience may improve the walks of a lot of dogs and owners.

How My Studies Have Changed the Way I See Dogs:

It is easier for me now to make a better judgement about why a given dog is behaving a certain way, or estimate the time and effort required to change certain behaviors.

What I’m Most Excited About:

CATCH is a well-rounded program that draws on the experience and research of many great trainers and behaviorists – it is great to know you’re learning from the best, and feel confident in what you’ve mastered. CATCH also prepares students for studying complicated and popular topics, such as more advanced canine physiology and behavior modification.

Way to go, Ashley, we’re so proud of you!
