Dog Training School Director
CATCH Academy’s Founder and Director, David Muriello, CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer), SDC (Service Dog Coach) is a Cornell University graduate with a career as a highly successful dog trainer in New York City. He founded and led a multi-location dog training business for Biscuits & Bath, a Manhattan based total wellness center for dogs, now with 13 New York City locations. After leading the dog training team there since 2005, in 2010 David became the Director of Operations. In this role he further enhanced his knowledge of dog care services including dog day care, veterinary services, dog walking, grooming, overnight care and transportation.
In addition to his firsthand experience training thousands of dogs in private lessons, group classes and behavior workshops, David has extensive experience in hiring and teaching dog trainers. Through years of leading a very busy team of trainers, he gained a strong understanding of what skills and knowledge make dog trainers successful.
David first created an education course for dog trainers, called Teaching Trainers, in 2005. This program combined fundamental dog training studies with hands-on experience in group classes, as well as regular discussion groups where student trainers gathered with experienced professionals to study a wide range of topics. Through this program, David has taught many inexperienced dog lovers to become dog trainers on a professional level. Most of these dog training students graduated to work as full-time dog trainers on David’s team, started their own businesses, or found fulfilling career paths in the dog shelter and rescue world. Most of his graduates also went on to earn their nationally recognized Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) certification. Today’s CATCH program includes the best of everything David has learned about how dog lovers become skilled training professionals and lead successful careers.
David has appeared as a dog expert on ABC-TV’s Rachael Ray Show and in Dog Fancy Magazine. He was also a member of the Education Advisory Group for the APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers) as well as a featured speaker at the APDT Conference in 2020, the annual emcee for New York City’s Central Park PAWS Best in Park Dog Show, and a national speaker for the PetCo Foundation and Petfinder’s wonderful Adoption Options events where dog rescue staff learn new skills from training and behavior experts.
