Featured Student
Our students are the future of dog training and the heart of our school.
That’s why we regularly take a moment to recognize one of our top aspiring trainers here.
Our Featured Student this month is Benjamin Cox of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At the time of this posting, Ben is wrapping up Phase 10 of his Master Class studies and will soon graduate as a CATCH Certified Dog Trainer!
A Word from Ben
My Favorite Recent Study Topics:
My top 3 favorite topics would have to be behavioral management, learning about how dogs learn, and learning tricks to teach your dog.
My Favorite Recent Hands-On Activity:
My favorite hands-on activity is when I got to work through the steps of training basic behaviors. Although they might be easier commands, it taught me a different way to look at training. I just got a new puppy and I had always done it the way I learned in the past. She didn’t always get the behaviors. I took what I learned in those hands-on activities to change the way I trained and eventually it worked.
How My Studies Have Changed the Way I See Dogs:
So similar to my previous answer, the program has taught me how to adapt to different dogs. I now look at each of my dogs and think about what the best way is to train each of them. Also, even when I go out to the dog park or I am walking around my neighborhood. I find myself looking deeper into the cues that those dogs are giving. I have a lot more work to do to get better at it, but I now have the tools to do it.
What I’m Most Excited About:
I can’t thank CATCH enough for all the knowledge that I have learned through the program. My mentor has been outstanding and has taught me so much. I look forward to continuing to work with her to gain as much knowledge about the field as I can.
Way to go, Ben, we’re so proud of you!
