Featured Student

Our students are the future of dog training and the heart of our school.

That’s why we regularly take a moment to recognize one of our top aspiring trainers here.

Our Featured Student this month is Tomoko Ota of Bloomfield, New Jersey. At the time of this posting, Tomoko is in Phase 10 of the Master Class program and is about to graduate as a CATCH Certified Dog Trainer (CCDT). Congratulations on all of your hard work and accomplishments!

A Word from Tomoko

My Favorite Recent Study Topics:

My favorite study topics have been dog body language, how dogs think and learn and behavior problem solving.

My Favorite Recent Hands-On Activity:

My favorite hands-on activity so far has been writing your own management and training plan. Taking an issue the dog has and looking at it from various factors helped me get a better understanding of how the issue came to be. It breaks it down into smaller components to show a clearer picture of what options are available to help with the problem. It’s a step-by-step process to figure out the course of action for many issues in different situations.

How My Studies Have Changed the Way I See Dogs:

What I’ve learned so far has expanded the way I see and interact with dogs everyday. I never realized observing body language can reveal so much about a dog. I’m more aware of my actions and how they influence the way dogs respond. By gaining the knowledge of how dogs think and learn, I have the tools to effectively communicate with dogs and that’s a great feeling. I have ways to go but I hope I can pass this feeling on to all my future clients.

Spending time with a beloved furry client.

What I’m Most Excited About:

Through an informative curriculum and hands-on activities, the CATCH program has given me a solid foundation in working with dogs and people. The staff at CATCH has been so supportive and I’m grateful for their enthusiasm to share their knowledge and experience. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to be part of a community that takes part in making a positive difference in the lives of dogs.

Way to go, Tomoko, we’re so proud of you!
