Featured Student

Our students are the future of dog training and the heart of our school.

That’s why we regularly take a moment to recognize one of our top aspiring trainers here.

Our Featured Student this month is James Heaney of Tinton Falls, New Jersey. At the time of this posting, Jim is studying Phase 7 of the Master Class and is doing an impressive job with his studies!

A Word from Jim

“Jim is a gifted trainer. He has a great understanding of dogs and dog behavior. He should be your ‘poster boy’ of students!” – Kathy M., CATCH Mentor Trainer

My Favorite Recent Study Topics:

My favorite topics of study thus far are Phase 2 Understanding Behavior, Body Language and Vocalizations, Phase 3 How Dogs Think and Learn and Phase 7 Behavior Problem Solving. The latter, Behavior Problem Solving, is my most favorite topic of study to date.

My Favorite Recent Hands-On Activity:

By far, the Behavior and Body Language Workshop has been my favorite hands-on experience. Absolutely a “Must Take” for anyone wanting to be a professional dog trainer!

How My Studies Have Changed the Way I See Dogs:

Since I began my education with CATCH, the way in which I observe my dog as well as every other dog I meet has completely changed. The CATCH educational process taught me to look at the overall picture of the dog or dogs. Understanding what a dog’s body language tells me has enabled me to design precise, effective training plans specifically tailored to individual dogs. Most dogs I train are behavior modification, even when training dogs with the goal of instilling basic obedience. I utilize simple B-Mods early on in training so developing behaviors do not become problematic down the road.

Jim helps his clients to reach new heights. Great work!

What I’m Most Excited About:

Before I became a student of CATCH, my primary experience was with hunting breeds for field and water training. Three years ago, my boy, “Cactus,” came into my life. When Cactus joined our family, the goal was for him to become my service dog. While going through the service training protocol, I began to learn to train dogs in a different way. I initiated research into the best school to attend to gain the skill sets needed to train dogs for other veterans that, like me, suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. CATCH was my clear choice to begin that journey. I am so grateful to the CATCH instructors and staff for their guidance, dedication, and the CATCH program. My business is booming as a trainer and I owe it all to CATCH! Life is awesome and, with CATCH, I have made friendships I am sure will span my lifetime. Thank you all!!!

Way to go, Jim, we’re so proud of you!
