Featured Student
Our students are the future of dog training and the heart of our school.
That’s why we regularly take a moment to recognize one of our top aspiring trainers here.
Our Featured Student this month is Renee Brown of Colorado Springs, Colorado. At the time of this posting, Renee has just graduated the Master Class and earned her CATCH Certified Dog Trainer (CCDT) certification. We are so excited to see her making a difference in the dog training world!
A Word from Renee
My Favorite Recent Study Topics:
My favorite topics so far have been body language, problem solving, and dealing with people! Dogs have always fascinated me. When I was young, I would try and guess what my dog was thinking all the time and now I have a much better idea. I have a passion for people and helping them to live their best life and now I have a better idea of how to do that with people and their lives with their dog.
My Favorite Recent Hands-On Activity:
My favorite hands-on activity was writing training plans for a dog with an issue. I loved breaking it down into tangible steps and then completing those steps and watching the progress. When I did this with a friend’s dog, it was an amazing feeling to be able to help them through the barking issue that they were having with their dog!
How My Studies Have Changed the Way I See Dogs:
I now have a much clearer understanding of how dogs think and learn and express themselves. Instead of thinking, “oh my goodness, that dog is so cute and excited!” I now see the same dog and know, “wow that dog is stressed out and desperately needs some exercise.” My entire perspective has shifted to actually see what the dog is communicating instead of humanizing the dog to fit my human emotions.
What I’m Most Excited About:
Studying with CATCH has been such a wonderful experience. I have learned so much about every aspect of dog training and I can’t wait to put it all into action!
Way to go, Renee, we’re so proud of you!
