Featured Student

Our students are the future of dog training and the heart of our school.

That’s why we regularly take a moment to recognize one of our top aspiring trainers here.

Our Featured Student this month is Christopher Weber of Gibsonville, North Carolina. At the time of this posting, Chris has just graduated Basics Pro, and he has done an impressive job with his studies!

Chris started out as a Sherriff and wanted to advance his knowledge of training and behavior, so he began studying with CATCH. He was a hobby trainer previously and does some fun Schutzhund training with his dogs. After deepening his knowledge of training and behavior, the sheriff’s department promoted him to K9 unit.

A Word from Chris

My Favorite Recent Study Topics:

Chris and Murphy make an incredible team and provide a strong example of the power of positive training.

Puppy development and reading/understanding dog body language were two of my favorite topics during this course. I believe puppy development is very important and think a lot of short falls that owners encounter could be prevented if the puppy was brought up with proper socialization. I also enjoyed learning about how to read dog body language. Being able to understand how dogs communicate with each other and people is very important to know in order to be successful with training.

My Favorite Recent Hands-On Activity:

My favorite hands-on activity was getting to work with the Mentor trainer. Ms. Spinks was very professional and allowed me to work with some of her clients. She provided valuable feed back and made each lesson fun for the client, the dog, and myself.

How My Studies Have Changed the Way I See Dogs:

My learning experiences have impacted how I look at dogs each day in a number of ways. One example would be how I see dogs in public. I tend to watch the dogs’ body language more now to see if they are calm, stressed, or showing signs of fear or aggression. Having the experience of CATCH has made me want to help people develop better relationships with their dogs especially when they are struggling with things such as basic obedience.

What I’m Most Excited About:

I would like to note that this was a very well structured program. I work full time, have a family, and train in my spare time. There was no way I would have been able to attend an in-classroom school so CATCH was the perfect option for me. I would like to thank the staff that was involved for all the support!

Way to go, Chris, we’re so proud of you!
