Featured Student

Our students are the future of dog training and the heart of our school.

That’s why we regularly take a moment to recognize one of our top aspiring trainers here.

Our Featured Student this month is David Shade of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. At the time of this posting, David is studying Phase 7 of the Master Class, and he’s doing an impressive job.

A Word from David

My Favorite Recent Study Topics:

So far, my 3 favorite topics of study have been Dog Body Language, Basic Obedience (Phase 4), and the phase on equipment / training tools.

My Favorite Recent Hands-On Activity:

My favorite hands on activity is hand targeting. This command was completely new to me when studying with CATCH. I have found that it is easy and fun to teach to dogs of all different sizes and backgrounds. Furthermore, it has so many uses for owners being used as a recall or a redirection tool. It’s great and a lot of fun!

How My Studies Have Changed the Way I See Dogs:

I had started my business around the same time I had started the CATCH program because I knew it would take time to create a following. Each phase that I had completed in the CATCH Master’s Program had just exponentially increased my understanding and skills when working with dogs. Every time I had learned something new, I would practice with my own dogs before taking it out into the real world. The results have been incredible whether it’s obedience, understanding dog behavior, or observing dog body language. Furthermore, I have learned to see dogs more as individuals and have learned to look at the world from their perspective. This is especially helpful when dealing with a dog that requires some form of behavioral modification.

What I’m Most Excited About:

After a period of reflective thinking and speaking with my mentor, I had realized how lucky I was when I decided to go with CATCH to become a certified dog trainer. CATCH is one of the only positive reinforcement based programs out there. If it wasn’t for CATCH, my business would not be as successful as it is today where I have been working full time for a few months now. Additionally, my business and my attitude for dogs would not be truly force-free if I had not gone with CATCH. I am so thankful that I chose the right program and how it has affected my attitude and understanding towards dog training.

Way to go, David, we’re so proud of you!
