Featured Student

Our students are the future of dog training and the heart of our school.

That’s why we regularly take a moment to recognize one of our top aspiring trainers here.

Our Featured Student this month is Linda Lebron of Raleigh, North Carolina. At the time of this posting, Linda is wrapping up Phase 9 of the Master Class. She is doing an amazing job with her studies, and she has impressed both her Program Director and her Mentor Trainer with her dedication.

A Word from Linda

Linda and her gorgeous student dog, Maggie, make a great training team!

My Favorite Recent Study Topics:

My two favorite topics of study have been “How Dogs Think and Learn” and “Hands on Training-Basic and Advanced Obedience Skills”. How dogs think and learn gave me the knowledge to understand how dogs interpret the instructions you give them and what the expected response should be. The section was full of terminology used in the profession and included a wealth of information gained from the library provided with my studies.
The hands-on training-basic and advanced obedience skills section was a lot of fun. It included information as simple and extremely important as how to hold a leash properly and advanced behaviors such as mat training or “going to place.” The included videos made learning simple and made progress with my dog possible.

My Favorite Recent Hands-On Activity:

My favorite hands-on activity was my basic obedience externship. I was fortunate enough to be paired with my mentor, Jane Marshall, who gave a wealth of information and taught me so much. She allowed me to stay on and watch her training classes and eventually I was allowed to participate. I was excited to try the training with my Giant Schnauzer Maggie and was overjoyed to have her respond so well to the behaviors I previously did not know how to train.

How My Studies Have Changed the Way I See Dogs:

Through my learning experience with CATCH I feel as if I understand what dogs are trying to communicate better than I ever did before. I have had dogs all my life and have always felt a special bond with them. Learning about calming signals and how dogs communicate through their body movements makes me better understand the language of dog and has increased my bond with my own three dogs.

What I’m Most Excited About:

When I look back at the past year and all that I have learned, I am so happy that I decided to become a dog trainer and glad I chose CATCH as my school. My program director, Kelly, was my book translator when all my thoughts jumbled together, my cheerleader, and my dog story telling friend. I am amazed at how much I have learned and how I see dogs in a new light. Thank you so much to everyone who answered the phones when I called, and especially to Kelly.

Way to go, Linda, we’re so proud of you!
