Featured Student
Our students are the future of dog training and the heart of our school.
That’s why we regularly take a moment to recognize one of our top aspiring trainers here.
Our Featured Student this month is Nathja Alstrom of Portales, New Mexico. At the time of this posting, Nathja is studying Phase 4 of the Master Class, and she’s doing a wonderful job.
A Word from Nathja
My Favorite Recent Study Topics:
Learning the body language of dogs, because I use it so much when studying dogs and choosing which training method to use.
I really enjoyed reading the book: “Barking: The Sound Of Language.” because it made me understand dogs even better!
My Favorite Recent Hands-On Activity:
My favorite hands-on activity is by far the hand targeting!!! I love using it with Zoey, she has always been really good at coming when called, but this makes it fun for her to come back! I mean look at the picture – doesn’t she look like a dog that is happy to come back?
How My Studies Have Changed the Way I See Dogs:
The way I look at dogs now vs. before I started has changed so much! When I am at the dog park with Zoey I am constantly amazed of the signals the dogs send each other and their ability to read them! I am so fascinated by that!
What I’m Most Excited About:
The student support has been a great help motivating me in times when I struggled. I am a more hands-on learner, so the reading has been a little harder to get through. Especially because English is my second language. But Student Support has been guiding me and motivating me so I can reach my goals. I love this school so much! How can you not when they make dreams come true?!
Way to go, Nathja, we’re so proud of you!
